RADIO OPERATOR COURSE

We offer the Radio Operator Course or Drone Radio Operator Certification, where each class will have a maximum of 20 students.  The course requires two classroom lessons and an exam that can be done on a different day. Sign up for € 90.

Below we outline the contents of the course where the drone pilot will first study theory and then put the new knowledge into practice. In accordance with the current regulations, classroom theory training is only authorised to be carried out at an ATO or official ultralight aviation school.

Distance learning for the theory can only be taken on an authorised learning platform ascribed to an ATO or official ultralight aviation school.

A written examination will be taken in person, together with the attendance records that will be registered at the ATO.

Note pertaining to current regulations: any course that is taken in person in facilities that are not authorised for a specific ATO will not be valid.

DURATION

The duration of the Radio Operator Course is 10 hours, which includes:

– Theory lessons: 5 hours

– Practice lessons: 5 hours of listening and practice

Airspace Classification and Air Traffic Services

    • Know the different airspace classifications and the services that must be provided.
    • Know how the information and air traffic services are structured and how they operate.

Radiotelephony and communications principles

  • Define and know the characteristics of waves and wave transmission.
  • Identify the frequency bands and know their main characteristics.
  • Identify and know the different kinds of waves.
  • Know the characteristics and use of VHF frequency.
  • Know and identify the main components of a radio transmission.
  • Know and identify the different message categories.

Radiotelephony and communications

  • Know and use the phonetic alphabet.
  • Know and use the structure and components of standard communications.
  • Apply transmission techniques correctly.
  • Describe and use standard phraseology.
  • Know the different types of aerodrome and the kinds of transmission used in each of them.
  • Know the light and visual signals.

Radio procedures

  • Describe and explain the most frequent and necessary exit procedures.
  • Describe and explain en route procedures.
  • Describe and explain the arrival and traffic pattern procedures.
  • Describe and explain the procedures in case of radio failure.
  • Know the most commonly used abbreviations.

Emergency procedures

  • Define and explain general emergency procedures.
  • Define and explain relief procedures.
  • Define and explain medical emergency procedures.
